Jeff and I started the year off right with a mini-road trip to Paola, Kansas. It was freezing outside and we really considered staying indoors. But we had a mission: Mark off a 101 in 1001 goal.

More specifically…get down with some bbq. If anyone tells you that barbeque is better anywhere else…they’re either lying or they’ve just never had the opportunity to try Kansas BBQ. If you don’t believe me, go to the BBQ Shack and try it for yourself. Guy Fieri ventured to these parts to test what Kansas City considered to be one of the best places around on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so we checked it out.

We didn’t try them, but Atomic Buffalo Turds was one of the menu items Guy tried…rumor has it they’re delish! For those who don’t follow the TV show, that’s the “I wear my sunglasses on the back of my head” host, Guy! After the show aired on the Food Network, the Shack’s business quadrupled and required they relocate their space from this…

Their original spot held 30ish people, elbow to elbow. They upgraded to a more spacious location right off the highway and just a mile up the road from the original location.

As Jeff stated, “Take this picture for the blog!” 🙂

Us. Documenting so we can look back and remember when…

Oh yes…indeed folks I did not disappoint…I found love!!

In case you decide to check out the place and follow in our bbq-eatin’ footsteps:

  • My choice: Rodney’s Hot Hog and Cheese Sandwich with a side of Twang My Buds Baked Tater Salad
  • Jeff’s choice: Old Man Kelsey’s BBQ Sandwich with Pulled Pork and a side of Nip It In The Bud Spud Fries
